Jehovah Rapha - God My Healer

When we think of God as a healer, many often think of miraculous signs like someone being healed from their sickness or disease. Which is true of our God. He is indeed a God who heals all disease ( Exodus 15:26). However, we often neglect the portion of healing that is far more important to God--the healing for our soul. God wants to heal us on a deeper level; one that is emotional, spiritual and mental. Isaiah 53:5-8 says, " but he was wounded for our transgressions and he was buried for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed." It is our iniquities and our transgressions that cause brokenness; the sin that creates the need for a savior. The very end of this scripture says that it is by his stripes we are healed. This means that healing is our portion as children of God. This healing also refers to the brokenness that lies deep within our soul, the brokenness that only God the healer can heal( Jehovah Rapha).

We often look to other sources for healing, whether that be alcohol, medicine, cigarettes, and even food, but these things are only a temporary fix. These things act as a numbing device to the pain, or a bandaid to the wound. These things do not solve the root of the problem. Jesus wants to get to the root of all of our pain and brokenness. This is what he paid for.  It is our Job to pursue this healing through Jesus Christ in faith. Such as the woman with the issue of blood. She knew that her healing was found in Jesus. "for she said within herself of I may but touch his garment , I shall be whole" (Matthew 9:20-22). This woman knew that if she could at least touch the hem of Jesus garment, she would be healed. It was Jesus response that was most important. He tells this woman "your faith has made you well." It is our faith that will make us well.
